Church Fundraisers Are The Oldest Type Of Fundraising Events

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

By Peter Crump Church fundraisers have been around for ages and are known for being community and family get togethers. At one time they were called garden parties and were held during the summer months. At the church fundraisers, there were games of fun for the children, food to buy and crafts for sale. There was usually a supper and a dance to celebrate the success of the fundraising event. Schools and churches have band fundraisers because the purchase of band equipment is very expensive. Even if you want to purchase used band equipment, church fundraisers will be able to come up with the funds needed for different instruments. At an event where churches or schools need to raise money for the band, the patrons are almost always treated to a concert. Church fundraisers often consist of adult concerts where the adults of the community show off their talents and show how they can act silly and childish. In small communities, when a concert is a successful band fundraiser, people from another community often invite the performers to put off the concert in another town to help them with their fundraising. A common church fundraiser is a hymn sing held in the church. With this type of event, people make a donation to have their favorite hymn sung by the congregation or the choir in memory of a loved one. This also helps as a band fundraiser because the people see where the band needs new equipment just by listening to them play. Bands perform on a regular basis in parades and town festivities. In order to do well in competitions they need to have the best of equipment and therefore band fundraisers help to provide the much needed funds, not only for equipment but often for travel. Church fundraisers help local bands in many ways because they often give donations to various bands. The next time there is a church fundraiser in your town, you might be surprised at the amount of fun you have when you attend. Church fundraisers can be a lot of fun. Get Rid of Those Ants Review

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

By Saundra Jackson In my research I found that there are literally thousands of ways to control and kill ants. However, only a handful of methods that are really effective. If you have ever watched ants at work they resemble a well-organize military unit. They appear to be well trained locators of food and water. Ants are very tenacious and when there is any food or water to be located they will find it. 12,000 species of ants exist in the world with over 200 species in California alone. The life expectancy of ant is only 45-60 days. An ant brain has about 250,000 brain cells. The human brain has 10,000 million brain cells, but a colony of 40,000 ants has the same brain capacity as a human. When it rains you will see fewer ants running around. In dry weather ants will multiply very quickly. You can give the queen heartburn with this mixture: 3 Ounces of Strawberry jam (any sweet jam will do) 1 Tablespoons of wet, canned cat food (cheap brand) 1 Tablespoon of boric acid This concoction is a treat for ants and the workers will bring the treat to their queen. The queen gets excited and quickly gobbles up the goody and within a few hours dies of heartburn. Make sure this treat is out of reach of children and animals. If ingested by children and animals, it will make them very sick. But, it doesnt take very much to eliminate the queen. 10 ways that will you get rid of ants If you have a bad ant problem and cant get rid of them, distract them away from you property by putting a slice of watermelon or cantaloupe in your yard far away from your house. Other than honey this will keep them away.If you have window boxes, clean them out and whitewash them.Soybean (glycine max) is an excellent and repellant and has been used for many years in Africa. Just prepare the spray by soaking the plant stems in water for 24 hours then using the water as a spray. This also works for aphids and coding moths.Place diatomaceous earth (DE), powdered charcoal, powdered pyrethrum-silica dust or bone meal around the base of the plants in an area; in which the ants are bothering the plants.Sprinkle some fresh tansy leaves in the corners of your kitchen counter and in the windowsills it will repel ants 100%.A vinegar cleaner can be used to wipe down cabinets and floors. Just mix a solution 1 cup vinegar to about 2 gallons of water should do the trick.Buy instant grits (make sure it’s instant grits and not quick grits) and sift them where you see the ants.Put a barrier between the ants and you. Anything in crystal or flake form can be used to deter them. Salt, black pepper, red pepper, baking soda, talcum powder… the list goes on. (Used coffee grounds are said to be especially effective, even against fire ants.) Why does this work? Imagine yourself faced with a shoulder high snow drift that’s too soft to hold your weight. Would you go through it if you didn’t have to? Not hardly!Ants don’t care for mint or citrus, cloves or bay leaves, so think orange peel, peppermint tea, lemon juice, ground cloves, etc. If you can plant mint around the foundations of your home, you may deter them from entering. Vinegar has the same acid as citrus, so use it to clean with and ants won’t feel welcome. (It probably erases or overpowers the odor trail other ants have left for them to follow.)Another way to get rid of ants is to remove what makes your living space so attractive. What will really help you get rid of ants is cleaning up any crumbs and spills, and not leaving pet food in bowls overnight. Start by cleaning up, sealing entryways, and trying to find the nest. Just eliminate their food source. Heres a killer Ant Ambrosia 4-5 tbsp of cornmeal 3 tbsp of bacon grease 3 tbsp of baking powder 3 packages of bakers yeast Mix the cornmeal and bacon grease into a paste, then add the baking powder and yeast. Dab the gooey mix on the sides of jar lids, and set them near the anthills. The pesky critters will love it to death! Learn the Truth About Weight Loss and Getting Great Abs

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By Gregg Gillies Debunking The Ab Myth Ab training has been done to death but it’s time to take another look. Why? Because people are still training their abs wrong so all that ab training information must not be doing the job. 1 - No Spot Reducing - Endless crunches will not melt away the fat from your midsection. It just doesn’t work that way. And despite the “burn” of high rep ab exercises, you barely burn any calories while doing those endless crunches. Your fat burning time is best spent elsewhere on more effective training. You also don’t work the ab muscle intensely enough to develop it. So endless high rep crunches fail on both counts - poor muscle building and poor fat burning. Two thumbs down as the cliche goes. 2 - The Abs are a Muscle and should be trained as such. You don’t need high reps and lots of sets to work your abs. This just leads to overtraining. Now, abs are a more endurance oriented muscle so slightly higher reps may be more effective. However, you should keep the reps at 20 or lower and work on increasing the resistance. Yes, you should be increasing the weights on ab exercises, just like your other exercises. The stronger your abs, the better they will look when the fat is stripped away. Ever see a really thin guy with a flat stomach but no abs? The abs haven’t been trained and aren’t developed enough to stand out even when the fat is stripped away. 3 - Don’t train the abs - What the heck do I mean by this? Well, your abs get a lot of indirect work from other exercises so you really won’t need more than a couple of hard sets of weighted crunches to work your abs. Your abs are a factor in exercises such as squats, deadlifts, seated or standing presses, dumbbell pullovers, pulldowns, etc. Don’t believe me? Next time you work out, do a few hard sets of standing stiff armed pulldowns on the lat machine and tell me your abs aren’t sore the next day. I did them yesterday and my abs are more sore than my back today. If you want to develop a flat stomach with your abs visible, you need to treat your abs like a muscle and train that way. And you need to strip away the fat with a proper training and nutrition program designed around total fat loss, not trying to spot reduce through endless crunches. Is there anything out there in the fitness world suffering from more misinformation that how to get abs? The number of ab machines constantly coming to market is mind boggling. Especially considering that they aren’t needed and won’t give you the results that you want. Let’s set the record straight on ab training right now and give you the real information you need so you can say no to the next infomercial ab machine and yes to actual abs. 1 - Training your abs consistently will eventually give you the flat stomach or six-pack that you want. No. It’s not gonna happen if your abs are covered by a layer of body fat and doing endless sets of ab exercises is not the way to rid yourself of that excess body fat. 2 - Train your abs everyday for best results. Again, no. Your abs are a muscle, just like your chest, lats, arms and so on. You should train your abs just like these other muscles, with progressive resistance and high intensity - then allow them to rest and recover. Never train your abs more than 3 days a week. 3 - You need to do hundreds or reps and feel the burn to get great abs. Yep, again the answer is no. The abs a muscle just like I mentioned above. To get six pack abs you need to strip off the fat, but you also need to build the abs to get them to really pop out. If the muscle isn’t developed, you’ll just have a flat stomach but no abs. The name of the game is progressive resistance for sets of 8 - 20 reps, just like your other muscles. 4 - Train the abs with lots of sets and high reps to burn off stomach fat. You guessed it. This is also false. Spot reduction just isn’t going to happen as much as we’d all like it to. You can’t burn fat on your stomach by doing endless crunches. You need to put together a proper weight lifting program, nutrition plan, and cardio in order to rid your stomach of that stubborn layer of fat and bring yout your abs. Why Brides Don’t Know What Wedding Favors to Buy

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By Blake Kritzberg Many brides are flummoxed when it’s time to choose the wedding favors. They aren’t sure when to order them, and they aren’t sure what to get. If you’re one of those brides, this article can help you figure it out. When to Order Them Brides like to put off ordering their favors until shortly before the wedding. This isn’t because they’re lazy; it’s because they have a more accurate guest list then, and they’re less likely to end up with the wrong number of favors. Sometimes this is a good idea, and sometimes it isn’t. For brides that plan to buy something fairly generic, such as a truffle or specialty chocolate in a decorative box, putting off the favors is fine. That way, if your first choice ends up back-ordered, you won’t feel much grief in ordering an alternative — after all, chocolate is chocolate. On the other hand, if you’re having an unusual theme wedding and only one kind of favor will do, or you simply have your heart set on something, you’re better off ordering sooner. Favors are subject to churn — styles come and go. More than a few brides have bookmarked “favorite favors” on my site for months, then written in anguish when the items went out of stock or hit a six-week backorder shortly before the time they planned to order. In short, if you can substitute easily, then wait until your final guest count comes in. If not, play it safe. What to Get Many brides ask themselves, “What will everyone like?” Trying to please everyone didn’t work when you decided who to marry. And it won’t work when choosing your favors, either. Sometimes brides get so intimidated with the question that they start asking other brides what to get. This never works either — and here’s why. Brides come in distinct flavors, like ice creams. Some are vanilla. Some are more exotic, like avocado-coconut. The Hallmark Wedding Press Room has a little gem that puts it perfectly: younger brides often want a traditional, fairytale affair where everything goes by the book. But many older brides having a second wedding are determined to do things their way … which can be pretty non-traditional. Are these two brides going to be happy with the same kinds of favors? Of course not! Let’s say you’re the kind of bride who has a little drawer or shelf full of silver picture frames and miniature wedding cake candles. Almost every wedding you’ve attended has given you a little keepsake reminder, which you treasure. In turn, you’d love to give the same type of keepsake to your guests. You’ll probably naturally gravitate toward the kinds of favors that guests can use indefinitely — picture frames to hold photos of the event or family members, personalized champagne flutes, clever miniatures that remind everyone of the destination wedding you held. When you ask other brides what favors to give, what you really mean is, “what type of keepsake favor would you find most meaningful?” The Inevitable But Not Very Helpful Response Here’s what inevitably happens. Bride A, an older, non-traditional bride, responds: “Well, I personally find picture frames boring, but I gave out sushi candle favors at my small, Asian-themed reception and everyone adored them.” Bride B, a young, traditional bride, responds: “I didn’t think that everyone would like picture frames, but everyone likes chocolate, so I handed out truffles in an elaborate ribboned box.” Bride C, who’s a little tired of wedding planning, responds, “I don’t really care about favors, and I threw away every favor I ever got. Skip ‘em; nobody likes them.” Bride D, who may be a social activist or may have lost someone recently, says: “I have several diabetic relatives who couldn’t enjoy candy, and I wanted to do something meaningful, so instead of favors I donated to my favorite cause.” All these responses are valid and thoughtful. Yet none of them are helpful to the keepsake bride, who will find the most personal satisfaction in handing out something as lovely as the favors she herself has received and saved over the years. The moral of the story? Stop asking other people what to get, and start thinking about you. What kind of bride are you? Fairytale and traditional? Sleek and contemporary? Quixotic and independent? If you have any doubts at all on that score — and believe it or not, it’s easy to have them — go and hie yourself hither to one of the Web’s many “What Kind of Bride Are You?” quizzes. As silly as they seem, they’re actually incredibly useful if you’re still in the process of figuring it out. Once you have your style nailed down, you’re closer to identifying what favors will truly satisfy you, which is the point. Taking a CNN poll of friends, relatives and strangers is a great way to stay in office, but it’s not a great way to choose your favors. “Know thyself,” said the oracle at Delphi. It’s been golden advice ever since — especially for brides. Blake Kritzberg is editor of FavorIdeas. 8 Choices You Must Make to Live Successfully With Chronic Illness

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

By Lisa Copen It’s all about choice. The doctor may tell you what your body is doing or how it may react in the future, but you still have choice to make that will impact everything else about your life. [1] Recognize that the illness is chronic You will swim through the phases of grief for the rest of your life, because with a chronic condition comes new limitations as the illness progresses. Don’t be too hard on yourself; reach out to others, build up friendships with those that understand, pursue new hobbies that get your mind off of the illness, take a second look at your faith and how this effects it. [2] Be a good advocate for your health You know your body better than anyone else and the likelihood is that you will get tons of well-meaning advice from both friends and strangers. Be discerning in what you choose to follow and what you choose to let go. Kindly thank those that offer their advice, but don’t make any promises or feel obligated to try anything they offer. [3] Do research on new medications and alternative treatments Be wise in how much money you invest in alternative treatments; don’t continue to dump money into alternative treatments when the practitioners continue to offer promises and testimonials. Recognize that alternative supplements are not regulated by the FDA and may not be as effective as they claim or even safe. [4] Choose your doctors carefully Ask for referrals. Find a doctor who your personality clicks with. Don’t be demanding or act like you know more than s/he does, even if you occasionally do. Build a team of doctors that is willing to work with you to give you the best quality of life. [5] Refuse to give into bitterness When you’re seeking validation for your illness, especially when it’s invisible, it’s easy to get caught up in the blues of “but they don’t understand!” and “they are so lucky and they don’t even appreciate their health!” Defy the tendency to feel sorry for yourself and instead choose joy. [6] Step outside yourself Even if you aren’t happy about the diagnosis, in time you will witness others going down this same path and you may have a desire to reach out. Follow that passion! Reaching out to another person who is dealing with similar circumstances can be healing for both of you and will give your illness purpose, even on the days with great physical pain. [7] Get a grip on guilt It’s natural, especially if you have a family, to feel intense feelings of guilt that you are bringing everyone down with you. Recognize that this illness is not a judgment or punishment. it simply is. You may not be able to choose to live without it but you can choose how to live with it. Your kids and spouse are watching to see how you will handle this. Make them proud. [8] Allow yourself to be vulnerable On the flip side, you don’t have to be a steel magnolia and always keep a stiff upper lip. Find a friend, a mentor, a buddy - - someone who you can let down your frustrations, struggles, hopes and fears with. You’ll find that illness may leave you with fewer friends than before but the quality of relationships may be much more precious. We’re all sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Chronic illness is an unfortunate part of life we’ve been dealt, and how we choose to live with it is up to us. Allow yourself to have a “pity hour” now and then, but don’t fall into the trap of having “pitty years.” You may not be able to control your illness, but you can control your attitude. And a good attitude will make your illness much easier to cope with. Having troubles with pat answers? Find out how to really change in Lisa’s new book, “Why Can’t I Make People Understand? A Little Bit About Electro Acupuncture Acupressure

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Vadim Struzman A little bit about Electro Acupuncture Acupressure Do You Know that: Acupressure has been used to reduce post-operative nausea and vomiting in children. Acupressure also reduces nausea in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Acupressure, if correctly performed, increases circulation, reduces tension and pain and enables the body to relax. Acupressure strengthens the immune system and promotes wellness. Acupressure is more effective than physical therapy for the majority of patients with low back pain. Acupressure is used to reduce fear and anxiety in trauma victims and in pre-operative care.Acupressure can be done anywhere with or without special equipment. Having said that, what isAcupuncture - Acupressure Acupuncture is a comprehensive system of health care for treatment of acute chronic disorders, which originated in China almost 4000 years ago. A science based on natural law, its philosophy is to heal safely and without side effects. The goal of acupuncture is to promote self healing from within. The realignment of the energy field is based on the concept of the energy of life (Chi, or Qi in some books). It flows throughout the body to regenerate and nourish. It is generated by the internal organs and flows along paths called meridians. This network is continuously “communicating” with the rest of the body keeping all the functions in complete harmony. In this way, the nervous, digestive, muscular, etc systems all coordinate with each other through these network points. Acupuncturists determine whether Chi is weak, stagnant or otherwise out of balance, which indicates the points to be stimulated.Illness is caused when Chi does not flow properly throughout the body. Along the meridians are points where Chi can be affected by acupuncture needles or finger pressure or low voltage electrical pulses. In this way Chi is invigorated and its functions of nourishing, transforming, and protecting are enhanced. Clinically it has been time tested to be a safe, natural way to restore and maintain health. Massage, in my opinion, originated in nature itself, with the mother and child relationship. Just have look at the animal world and you will see how all mothers (well, nearly all, nature is not without faults) treat their babies. Cuddling, licking and stroking are common. If you combine the two together acupuncture and massage, we have acupuncture massage, or acupressure. Acupressure is a technique based on the same ideas as acupuncture. Acupressure involves placing physical pressure by finger, hand, elbow, or with the aid of electrical or mechanical devices on different acupuncture points on the surface of the body. To put it simply: Massage of specific acupuncture points is acupressure. Many martial arts also study and use acupressure for self-defence and health purposes. The points or combinations of points are said to be used to manipulate or handicap an opponent. Also, martial artists regularly massage their own acupressure points in routines to remove blockages from their own meridians, claiming to thereby improve their circulation and flexibility and keeping the points “soft” or less vulnerable to an attack. Attacking the acupressure points is one of the techniques in some martial arts. You can learn to do acupressure at home as a supplement to visits to a practitioner. This is especially useful when you are suddenly stricken with illness or pain and you can’t get to the doctor quickly. Now I would like to introduce You to Electro Acupuncture Acupressure! What are electro acupuncture acupressure massagers? People are scared today of needles with the emergence of AIDS and other similar types of diseases. But since acupuncture is indeed a great medicinal help, it did not die. Alternatives have been created in the form of electro acupuncture (where stimulations are done with electrical pulses). Therefore, the principles in all the derivative techniques remain the same, and so do the results. Today on the market we have a few different types of electro acupuncture acupressure massagers. In some cases they are called electro, in some electronic. Let me explain this part first. In reality, this is a machine with an electronic circuit, which is producing low current electrical pulses, that you actually feel on your skin through electrical pads (or other devices) connected to your body. So, both would be correct. In some cases they are called acupuncture in some acupressure. Electrical pulses are directed to the acu-points and at the same time, by pulsating they are slightly pressuring those points as well. Again, both are correct. I will call those machines electro acupuncture massagers (EAM), or acupuncture massagers (AM). Now I’ll explain a little bit about TENS, EMS. This is the definition: “TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation is a non-invasive, drug-free method of pain relief. It is ideal for the treatment of arthritis. Pads are placed on or near the area of pain. TENS uses soothing pulses that are sent via the pads through the skin and along the nerve fibres. The pulses suppress pain signals to the brain. TENS also encourages the body to produce higher levels of its own natural pain killing chemicals called Endorphins and Encephalin.” The same can be said about Electrical Muscle Stimulation or EMS The difference, as you can see, is one is used more for treating nerves and the other is used more for muscles. One more fundamental difference between TENS, EMS and EAM or AM is the frequencies at which they operate. TENS are usually in the range of 1-152 Hz EMS are approximately the same. EAM or AM are more at the lower level of this range 1-52 Hz, but with a higher level of pulse’s strength. In my opinion and the opinions of many doctors and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, I have spoken with, low range frequencies are more suitable for pain relief and muscle stimulation and the higher range frequencies are used more for treating specific illnesses and must be done under the supervision of a doctor. So, all of them are very useful tools. Cast Aluminum Furniture

Friday, January 4th, 2008

By Hans Dekker In days gone by, outdoor furniture was cast from iron. Today, cast aluminum furniture is used more often. Cast aluminum carries all of the grace and charm of cast furniture, but avoids the blight of rust and peeling paint. The process by which this gorgeous furniture is created begins with a model carved from wood. This wooden model is then used to create a metal mold. A mold is formed by pressing the wooden replica into casting sand, and then pouring molten lava into the impression created. As the molten metal cools it forms a cast which is used to create the beautifully ornate cast aluminum furniture that we often see gracing outdoor settings. Cast aluminum furniture sets traditionally European scene. Bistro sets consisting of small tables and two chairs evoke the picture of an outdoor French scene. These graceful settings are perfect accents for balconies, gardens, or any small nook. Cast aluminum furniture is available in a wide variety of furniture pieces. Armchairs, sofas, side tables, love seats and loungers all carry the intricate designs of the cast aluminum furniture. These settings make picturesque arrangements that carry an old world charm. Cast aluminum furniture is known for its durability. It is a top choice for outdoor use. This hearty furniture can be left outdoors during the cold winter months. The low maintenance feature of these metallic beauties has a charm of its own. Are you looking for an outdoor set that can transport you to another era? You can turn your balcony into a vine-covered escape surrounded by flowers that transports you to the yesteryears of Europe with an ornate bistro set. Why Drug Companies are Naughty and 5 Remedies to Cure the Symptoms

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Laura_Turner] Laura Turner With the hum of the election campaign and the debate of big business, versus human interest, I decided to do a bit of muckraking into the art and science of the recent removal of Mercks Vioxx. My motivation of course; to look for clues as to the role drug companies play in our health and wellness (or lack thereof). Heres some symptoms giving me trouble: Symptom #1: After pulling Vioxx from the shelves, drug company, Merck, (as well as the media) made the only 7.5 in 1,000 patients could be at risk for heart attack or stroke sound like a simple omission. Symptom #2: Prior to the pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies clearing their shelves of Vioxx, studies had shown the drugs destructive effects for over four years (Check out the proof for yourself in this article: [http://my.webmd.com/content/Article/95/103442.htm ] http://my.webmd.com/content/Article/95/103442.htm ) Symptom #3: We are given all of this data in a most nonchalant fashion, prior to learning the amount of money Merck was pocketing on the drug: current tally, $2.6 billion (reference article above). Symptom: #4: We are meant to be comforted by the fact that the drug, Vioxx, was released with only limited clinical testing. And gosh, if no one from the random sample had any cardiovascular consideration to begin with, who knew it would cause heart attacks or stroke (ref. [http://my.webmd.com/content/chat_transcripts/1/103031.htm ] http://my.webmd.com/content/chat_transcripts/1/103031.htm )? Symptom: #5: (Even if we are to digest this) Perhaps they shouldnt have told us that in 2002, according to a report from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association ( www.bcbs.com ) over $160 million dollars was spent to advertise Vioxx (which was higher than advertisement dollars for both Pepsi and Nike). Shall I continue? Why not… heres more off the cuff musings: On the other side of the coin, Merck has set off a chain reaction. Each and every day I see advertisements from lawyers on my local upstate New York television asking for Vioxx users to step forward. Yes, if you dial 1-800 theyre at your disposal, poised and ready to sue the pants off Merck. And so I ask you… Do two wrongs make a right? Heres my assessment of the situation based on clinical experience: When were sick, we trust our doctor to help us come back to health. We trust the pharmaceutical companies to support research and create drugs to prevent disease and ailments. Yet, in a fear based society (assuming death to be the fear we speak of) we hear precious little about the trust we should place on our bodies own natural ability to heal itself. Its just that simple. Lets all be honest with each other, drug companies are betting that you are going to get sick and if and when you do they will be happy to accommodate you. When doctors prescribe drugs, pharmaceutical companies make money. And when a doctor prescribes a certain brand of drug, the doctor receives a kick-back from the company. Its simple supply and demand. Whats more, now their digging a little deeper into your pocket and your psyche. Heres a prime example. Turn on your television set during lets say football season just to be timely. Youll notice primetime advertisements by your favorite (or not so favorite) celebrities promoting Celebrex, Levitra and so on… These advertisements bypass the medical profession placing drugs on the table for commercial consumption. So this all begs the question - are drugs bad for you? The answer can be both yes and no. All drugs have side effects. Most drugs are created from organic sources but are then chemically manipulated to cause a favorable reaction in the body. When you take a drug, basically, youre putting an inorganic substance into nature. Therefore, the hullabaloo makes me think how do we stay out of the machine? Or better yet, if there are drugs which will help people become well (which I believe there are) how do we keep the money-hungry honest? Heres my 5 remedies: Remedy One: Educate Yourself What drugs can do is be a means to wellness. But you need to know the facts. If you walk into your doctors office with a list of symptoms, you will receive a drug that promises to (on paper) relieve you of your symptoms. But what if those symptoms are trying to tell you something? And what if the drug your doctor prescribes could make you sicker? Heres what you can do: If you are given a drug, check out the side effects and interactions here, then decide: [http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/ ] http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/ Remedy Two: Think Complimentary Medicine So, Laura, what is complimentary medicine? Complimentary medicine asks you to take a long look at yourself, your body and your beliefs about why an illness has developed. Its not about treating one ailment (joint pain, an injury, an illness) its about looking at the whole picture: your posture, your diet, your lifestyle. Then, creating an exit strategy for your illness. Complimentary medicine asks you to take a look at your relationship to the affliction and then with your doctors facilitation - developing a treatment program as a means to health (which can include medication). This way you become fully active in your illness and treatment. Remedy Three: Practice Prevention The best way to approach wellness is when you are well. Then, if the time should come for you to become a part of your own health care, you can be honest with yourself and how you feel about your body. Start now. Take a long look at your self. Begin by checking your score on the wheel of life: ( [http://www.onlinewbc.gov/docs/manage/lifewheel.html ] http://www.onlinewbc.gov/docs/manage/lifewheel.html ) Are you taking ample time for yourself? Time for exercise, time for play? Are there outside forces instigating stress in your body? By taking the wheel of life exam youll understand that your personal fulfillment can pay dividends on your health. Remedy Four: Have Routine Check Ups This one is easy. Create a relationship with your doctor: Make continuous notes of all your concerns and talk to your doctor about them. Most doctors will only spend a limited time with you, so get your notes together before hand and aim to keep the lines of communication open. Step Five: Live a Healthy Lifestyle Be Kind To Yourself: Start by taking a few quiet moments each day to silence the outside world and allow the heart rate to slow. Continue your process to be well by becoming conscious of all that is around you. Nutrition: Practice becoming aware of what you are putting in your mouth try to focus on the naturals: fruits and vegetables and go for lean meats and low fats. Finally, dont forget to drink your 8-oz glasses of water. Exercise: Be sure to find an exercise program you enjoy and be consistent with your workouts: My philosophy: spend 1 hour per day at least 5 days a week. This is just a guideline. Find what kind of exercise you enjoy most, and be consistent. Your body will thank you. In Closure: Learn to get to know your body. Your body and your relationship to it will give you signals as to how to take care of it. You can keep the drug companies honest by asking questions, challenging information and making the most of the time you spend with your doctor. By creating a positive atmosphere and a positive lifestyle you are certain to find yourself betting on wellness and keeping the pharmaceutical monies right where they belong: in you own pocket. Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrena_Markley]Andrena Markley Its the age of an unstoppable group of avant-garde mobile phone manufacturers who have taken steady strides towards progress in the last decade and given the industry a new shape. In fact, from the very first day of the inception of mobile phones, the progressive journey has proved to be an impressive joyride spanning through precision based research and development. To make things more elaborate, a brief comparative look into two breeds of communication devices to etch out the conquest of technology is in order. The first ever mobile phone made its appearance amidst much awe to change human lives in a very drastic manner. The concept of communication took a defined roll, and getting connected from different regions in a mobile manner impressed people to go devotedly for the revolutionary devices. With each step towards the coming days, manufacturer tinkered with their intelligence to bring out better products with expanding attributes. Things took such a smooth turn that the early 21st century witnessed a series of such highly endowed phones, which ushered in a revolution of sorts. Today’s mobile phones carry Quad Band technology to give global mobility with attractive features like music players, cameras, office applications and other goodies. A satellite phone works on the concept of satellite communication, which denotes the functioning of these devices directly through orbiting satellites. Meaning which, satellite phones have the ability to operate from anywhere on earth, be it the most remote of jungles, depending on the architecture of their systems. Naturally, satellite phones give you a definite edge over terrestrial mobile services, which are available in such remote places.
