The Real Standard for the Existence of God

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By James W. Peterson When asked the question: is God real? one is being asked to validate the state of the existence of the concept of God against the standard of existence for the concept of real. This implies both that a standard for the concept of real exists and that it is known. A different question would be: is this thing to which I am pointing real? This is asking to validate the state of existence of a real physical thing against that same standard used to evaluate the concept of God. But can this be done? Yes it can! Humans; like all biological life forms, need to be aware of things that physically exist. Why? Because the survival of biological life forms depends upon their consumption of physical things! How do biological life forms become aware of physical things? They sense them! All biological life forms have a sensing mechanism by which they become aware of the physical needs of their survival and to which they respond in-order to acquire those needs. A need is defined as a condition of existence - determined by a things nature that is required for its survival. A thing that satisfies a survival need is referred to as a value. A survival value; then, is identified by the beneficial effect it has on the life of a biological being. If no benefit arises no value obtains. The aspects of a survival value that allow it to be sensed are the attributes of (or the facts) of its physical characteristics. Facts are identified either by their direct physical stimulation of the sense-organ extensions of a brain or by interrogating their effect on other physical facts. Facts are absolutes, meaning their identity is consistent with reality. Facts are what they are; they are not (cannot be) different from what they are. All facts (including their associated relationships) are referred to as being real things. A fact is a physical aspect of nature; its attribute is a mental existent resulting from abstraction. Attributes are the mental aspects of a things physical existence. An act of identification is the act of abstracting information from reality; its product is an attribute. Abstraction is the mental focusing of a brain by its mind for the purpose of identifying the facts which its brain is observing. A fact represents a real (or a true) state of existence. When asked to evaluate the real state of existence of a thing (or of an idea) it is the facts of reality that become the final arbiter. Reality is not a place or a thing; it is a state of existence. If a thing satisfies the definition of the concept of fact it is a real physical existent; and the attribute abstracted from it is a true mental existent. Attributes are ones mental units representing the facts ones brain is interrogating (sensing). Asking the question is God real equates to asking are there physical facts in nature that give rise to attributes supporting the idea that the concept of God is real and is therefore true. Facts are physical in nature; their attributes are intellectual in mind. Meaning; that since facts are real then their abstractions are necessarily true. These are one and the same; you cannot have one in the absence of the other. Sensing a fact in nature is equivalent to being aware of what is true. Knowledge exists in nature as its facts and is possessed by a mind as these are formed into concepts. Concepts that represent what is true about reality are built from abstractions resulting from a brains observations of (i.e., its physical stimulations from) reality. Life is evidenced as a brain observes (i.e., becomes physically aware of) the effects of lifes electro-chemical processes on and to other physical things in reality. A brain observes that the processes described by life first attract (or otherwise acquire) and then consume natural resources from nature and then converts these into new substances and returns them to nature. At the fundamental level of nature this process is self-sustaining and self-generated: it is what we call life. Life exists infinitely in the physical universe. However: by the pressures of evolution; the life possessed by biological beings has become dependent on those biological beings. Life depends on its biological host to obtain the natural resources from nature its electro-chemical process require for their continued functioning. If a human host fails to satisfy the natural resource needs of his life processes those processes will stop functioning and that human will die. This says that it is by identifying the natural resources required by the electro-chemical processes of ones own life that one becomes aware of what values are. Acting rationally; then, means to act in accordance with the requirements of your own life processes. Intellectually - this means to identify the physical values your life processes require: physically - this means to act guided only by that information in-order to acquire those physical values. The principles of Proper Action specify that ones personal survival actions with regard to ones social needs must be ethical and that ones personal survival actions with regard to ones physical needs must be moral if ones goal is survival; and by the laws of nature it is. That which exists epistemologically is a concept; and concepts are dependent on that which exists physically. Mans concepts are created from the attributes he abstracts from reality. Concepts represent mans ideas about what reality is. Concepts are mans intellectual concomitant of what exists physically; Epistemology resulted from mans need to know about that which exists metaphysically. Notice the structure of the following concepts. The fundamental concept of metaphysics is reality - its concomitant concept in epistemology (realities intellectual attribute; its mental idea) is the concept of true. The fundamental concept of reality is life - its concomitant concept in epistemology (lifes intellectual attribute; its mental idea) is the concept of value. Infinity measures the physical extent of life within reality - its concomitant measure of value in epistemology (infinitys intellectual attribute; its mental idea) is the concept of God. In other words: God measures the intellectual effect of value on epistemology as being equivalent to the physical impact of life to living things. This argument says that since life is the physical standard then the concept of value is its equivalent intellectual standard. This argument further states that to know life and what its survival requirements are is to possess knowledge about the fundamental (or supreme) value in the universe. Lifes identity determines what its own needs are. Life is its own greatest need. It is not proper to say that life is valuable - it is only proper to say that life is value; they are as one. Man must discover and acquire the values (the physical needs) his life demands if survival within reality is his primary goal (and it is). Mans identity determines the actions he is able to (and must) perform to acquire his lifes physical survival values. Whenever one begins to consider the concept of value it is life (as it exists naturally within the universe) that one must be thinking about. Life describes the naturally occurring eternally existing electro-chemical activity found only at the fundamental level of physical existence. Life is a specific naturally occurring electro-chemical relationship existing only within and between the fundamental substance of the universe singularly described by the concept of matter - and its energy. Further; life is responsible for the existence of an electro-magnetic gravitational force that attracts the necessary natural resources from nature required by and for the continued functioning of its own electro-chemical processes. The concept of reality resulted from a human brains observation and identification of the causes of the physical stimulations of its own sense-organ extensions. Additionally: It is that brains awareness of these physical stimulations that gives rise to the concept of consciousness. Consciousness is described as being any brains awareness of the physical stimulations of its own sense-organ extensions. Consciousness is evidenced by -and is- a brains awareness of physical reality. Everything in existence exists and is the source of all things that exist everything caused to exist resulted from the functioning of a human mind and the associated actions performed by a human body. Reality is a physical concept it is a concept of metaphysics and has always existed. Mind is an intellectual concept it describes the functioning of a human brain. Observation is a concept of consciousness and is an involuntary (or automatic) brain activity. Thinking is a volitional mental activity that (to the best of our knowledge) is undertaken only by a human brain. Cognition; is the focused purposeful act of thinking, it is an intellectual action performed by mans mind and results in the production of ideas. Cognition requires that one know what is true about reality in-order that the ideas one creates are rational. Creation; then, is a volitional intellectual action undertaken by mans mind which guides his physical actions for the purpose of value production and therefore necessarily requires the product of mans cognition; his ideas. Production (the physical concomitant of mental creation) is the action of mans body directed by his mind that results in producing (or creating in reality) survival values. To produce survival values means to make ones ideas become real. It means to produce in reality what ones mind has created in its brain from the evidence of reality presented to it by its own sense-organ extensions. The primary purpose of mans virtuous acts (the rational actions of his creative mind) is to provide for the physical production of his survival needs. It is by first knowing that infinity measures the physical extent of life in reality that one is then eventually able to grasp that god represents the epistemic extent of its value in mans consciousness. God is to value that infinity is to life. The real standard then is the fact of life as it exists naturally within the universe. Life stands as mans standard-of-value; its preservation being his purpose. The answer to the question is God real? is: Yes! God represents the value that is known as the fact of lifes physical existence. Trager Work - Description and Benefits

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Michael Russell Trager work, also called psychophysical integration therapy, was developed by Milton Trager, MD in the 1970s, but it was based on the work he had been doing for his entire life. Dr. Trager was born with a spinal deformity, but managed to relieve its effects with a program of exercises that he developed. He was training as a boxer when he started using his techniques on his manager, his father and others. His work was so helpful that he eventually began a practice as a physical therapist, which itself led to his obtaining a degree in medicine so that he could teach his methods to other health care practitioners. Dr. Trager believed that the body is meant to move freely and easily, but that, when subjected to physical or emotional stress, people can teach themselves - sometimes without realizing it - to move or hold themselves in certain ways, or to not move at all. He based this belief on many observations, not the least of which was the reaction of a patient he encountered during his internship. This man was so stiff that he could barely move, but when he was given anesthesia for a surgical procedure he became extremely limp - until he woke up, when he resumed his former posture. This led Dr. Trager to formulate the theory that stiffness is a learned response which, even though it can become a habit, can be “unlearned”. The formal name of his work is “psychophysical integration therapy” because it helps the mind communicate better with the body. Trager work is a movement-based form of bodywork which has two components. The first is a passive session, called tablework, in which the practitioner takes each part of the client’s body through its normal range of motion, but does it so gently and rhythmically that the client eventually relaxes deeply enough to let go of their habituated patterns of stiffness and become more flexible. This sounds like it would be a lot of work for the practitioner, but it is not, mainly because the practitioner prepares for the session by practicing mental clearing techniques. These techniques help the practitioner achieve “hookup”, in which energy - which Dr. Trager believed is all around us - flows through the practitioner to the client, facilitating the relaxation process. The second component is called Mentastics and involves movement techniques which the practitioner teaches the client to use on their own. In this way the relearning process begun in the tablework session can continue and the client can learn how to move without tensing up. Dr. Trager originally worked with patients who had contracted polio; some of them actually recovered from the paralysis brought on by the disease. He also treated patients with muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis, strokes and even psychiatric disorders. But Trager work has also been helpful to people with breathing problems like asthma and emphysema, back and leg problems (including sciatica) and athletes who are in good health but looking to prevent injury and improve their attitudes. In fact, it can be useful for anyone who experiences pain (severe or slight) with movement. A passive Trager work session usually lasts from 60 to 90 minutes and is done on a table (like a massage table). During this time the client stays dressed and is covered. There is no effort needed on the part of the client and the session should not be painful. The Mentastics part of Trager work should also not be painful, as clients are taught how to “let go” so that they can move more easily and freely. There is no minimum number of sessions either required or recommended. Some people experience relief right away; others take longer. But in any case, the results of the treatments - and the Mentastic education - should be long-lasting. Dr. Trager intended the effects of his work to be permanent. Dating Thai Women

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Kum Martin Hollywood has played a major role in distorting the image of Thai women. If one were to believe the films, it would appear that Thai women are just into prostitution and indulging in sex regularly. In fact, the reserve is true. Thai women are pretty conservative and their virginity is not only expected but required by society. Thai women take their virginity very seriously. Physical contact is to the minimum even on a date. Holding hands with a boyfriend is equivalent to being intimate with a him. As a general rule, Thai women will not indulge into pre-marital sex. Majority are virgins at the time of marrying as the society deems it. Thai women are extremely domesticated. They take pride in keeping their homes clean and well looked after. They ensure that they excel in the art of cooking and keeping their men entertained so that there is no need for them to look for entertainment outside wedlock. Many Thai women view marriage as a route of escaping prostitution which seems to attract so many of them. Besides having very attractive features, it is these morals that attract men to Thai women. These women are known to stand by what they feel even if it means living in poverty. There are many instances where Thai women are known to stay and live in poverty than get tempted to prostitution. If you are looking attractive Thai women, internet get be a good resource. Many of these gorgeous looking women have now resorted to posting their profiles with hope of meeting their Prince Charming and having a happy-ever-after life. Good Fridays, Bad Choices

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Rick Frechette You cant answer the cell phone during prayers, I said to myself. Especially during these prayers at the hour that Christ died. But this is probably an emergency, and you are a doctor as well as a priest! No, its not right. Dont answer it. Whenever I talk to myself, the dialogue is always feisty. The phone buzzed in my pocket, unanswered, three persistent times. It could wait. The prayers would be over in just a few more minutes. The phone buzzed again. I discretely looked at it, just to see what name appeared on the screen. It was Raphael. That could mean only one thing: that she was dead. My blood turned cold, and a shiver ran down my spine. The hougan (voodoo priest) had told this perfectly healthy young woman, just a week ago, that she would not live past the prayers of Calvary hill. It was in her cards. She could not live past the hour of Christs death, unless she drank the potion he could make to save her. Now sure enough, she was dead. As the prayers of Calvary hill were coming to their conclusion, so was she coming to hers. Her name was Marie Louise. She and her brothers and sisters were born to impoverished Haitian cane cutters in the bitter sugar fields of the Dominican Republic. The mother and father having died, the children were thrown over the border into Haiti a dozen years ago, during one of the frequent Haitian roundups by Dominican officials. They landed in Haiti where they had never lived, where they knew no one, and where they could not even speak Creole. A Haitian social worker gathered them up and delivered them to our orphanage, where we have spent many years getting to know and love, and struggling to deal with, this complex family. Earlier Good Friday morning, while enjoying a coffee, a few of us were getting ready to start the day. I was getting ready to go to visit a friend who is facing the huge challenge of brain cancer. Good Friday was a good day for such a visit: we were commemorating an absolutely stark reality, that was nevertheless overflowing with grace; a grace as dark as it was powerful. Our chatter was interrupted by a disturbing call. Marie Louise was very sick in Kenscoff, and needed help. Off we went. Sure enough, her condition was disastrous. It was clear to me immediately that her whole nervous system was under full scale attack. I was sure she was reeling from a poison. We did our best to resuscitate and stabilize her, and when there was nothing more we could add to her treatments, I left her in the care of Raphael. I had other sick people to see, and I also needed to be on time for the prayers at 3pm at the orphanage on the mountain. I thought Marie Louise stood a chance with our treatments. I had seen these things before. Usually there is a lot of hysteria associated with them. I underestimated this time how much was terror and how much was the physiology of poison. I didnt underestimate in terms of treatment, but in terms of prognosis. I did not expect her to die. In shock, I uttered the final prayer of Calvary hill. I had no idea what to think or what to do next. But for sure, I needed to get her body. The Sisters and children of the orphanage started to pray the rosary for Marie Louise. Alfonso and I headed to Port au Prince to find a coffin, and to bring her body home. It was a long sad drive back up the mountain. It was late at night, and we gathered to bathe her body and dress her, and place her in the coffin. As we bathed her, I thought of Joseph of Aramathea, and the sacred body he prepared for burial, freshly taken off the cross, two millennia ago that very day. Both his corpse and ours were destroyed by jealousy and hatred. And there was no lack of blood in either case. His, from many afflicted wounds, hers from massive internal bleeding that poured out her mouth and nose as we prepared her for burial. Across the span of twenty centuries, we understood the sadness and the urgency of what Joseph had done for the dead Christ- the last possible act of kindness and respect. Joseph had to observe the Jewish command to bury Jesus before sunset. We were supposed to observe the Catholic command not to bury Marie Louise until Monday. But we could not keep this un-embalmed body, in the tropics, and full of poisons, in an orphanage, from Friday to Monday. We had no choice but to arrange a simple burial, with prayers and without a funeral mass, on Holy Saturday morning, and that is what we did. Timid heads of hundreds of orphan children peered into her coffin. Alfonso, with wet eyes and trembling hands, placed an image of the risen Christ into her cold hands. Susana and others who spoke a last goodbye did so with quivering and broken voices. And all of us had hearts as heavy as the heaviest lead. We struggled to understand the story, the one that Marie Louise had herself painted. She had come to see Alfonso a week before, to explain a grave problem. She was in love with a man who already had a girlfriend and a child. She also had become pregnant by him. Even though the boyfriend insisted on her ending the pregnancy a few months earlier, there was still strong jealousy on the part of the other woman, who went to see a hougan to put a death curse on her. A different hougan, whom she sought for help, wanted $300 Haitian dollars to make a potion to protect her. Marie Louise was looking for that money. Alfonso insisted, rightly, that Gods power is absolute, that to buy into these cures and this way of thinking is like stepping into quicksand. To stay close to the God of life, and to stay away from these evil incantations and their hypnotic power, was the only way to face them. (Good Friday is the most dramatic expression of this message imaginable.) He gave Marie Louise a cross to wear around her neck, to remind her of Gods love and power. Such discussions are almost daily occurrences in Haiti, so alive are the convictions that misfortune, illness and death have their source in a personal curse. Two days before her fateful one, Marie Louis was at the orphanage again. A lovely dress, fresh makeup, cheerful conversation, helping in the kitchen. But before she left, she asked again for $300, which was once again denied. Desolation of desolations. After her burial, we went to Kenscoff to try to understand more fully everything that had happened. I spoke with the boyfriend, the two girls who lived with her, with neighbors. I tried to find the hougan. I spent Easter Sunday in this dreary pursuit, only to find out that Marie Louises life was one of prostitution and drugs, of nightlong parties in filthy bars. Desolation of desolations. Those who filled her days and nights were nowhere to be found when she needed them. We were the only ones to try to rescue her from deadly poisons, to shed tears for her, to prepare her tenderly for burial, to commend her to the earth with prayers for her soul. Desolation of desolations. In spite of all her years with us, she never centered herself in what is true about love, but sought it in the places where, as the Bible says, Satan crouches like a lion ready to devour you if you are foolish enough to come near. Desolation of desolations. Marie Louise had come to us as child out of a nightmare, only to leave us as a young woman into a nightmare again. But this I know for sure: at five years old and again at twenty years old, we were truly home for her. May she rest in that comfort now. Religions have always played contradictory roles in society. Some aspects are liberating and life-giving. Others are enslaving and destructive. Christianity has dealt some death-blows in her long and very human history. So has Voodoo. But Christianity is a religion that lives in the public eye, with an identifiable authorities that must take responsibility for her activity in society. Voodoo lives in the shadows, ever secretive, with never anyone to hold responsible. Christianity must continually restate her purpose and goals, ever refined by public challenge. Superstitions become replaced by convincing descriptions of mystery, and the demands of mystery on us. Maybe one day Voodoo will be forced into this most necessary dynamic. Late that night, Good Friday, after a long tragic day, I stepped outside exactly at midnight to look at the stars. There was a wonder in the sky. The southern cross, of all things, shone like a diamond in the velvet sky, beneath clouds lit up by the full easter moon. I thought of Gods promise to Noah, after the great flood. If there could ever be a rainbow at midnight, there it was. Desperado, wont you come down from your fences, Put down your defenses, and open the gate. It may be raining, but theres a rainbow above you! You better let somebody love you Before its too late.* *Jackson Browne Fr. Dieting? The Real Secret

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Dr. Jamie Fettig Your Non-Conscious Mind is 98% of your full power. Your Inner Knowing is about 986,743 times more powerful than your non-conscious mind. The reason being is because this inner knowing has direct access to harness the infinite powers of the universe to produce results. Some people call this your higher self, your God presence within, your inner CEO, your innate wisdom and a host of other things. The main idea here is there is a power in the universe that created you and everything else. And when you get this power on your side in creating what you want, it becomes easy and almost effortless. The inner knowing is your connection to this power and is like the non-conscious mind in how it just takes orders and does as it is told. Your inner knowing takes all your orders, just like the non-conscious mind, unless you tell it otherwise. What this means is every time you have a thought, see a picture, say something to yourself, etc, etc, your inner knowing is listening and following directions. Now stop and think for a moment, how many times a day do you have a thought, say something to yourself or out loud or picture something you don’t want? You inner knowing is overwhelmed by all the contradicting messages it is getting. That is why it is so difficult for it to produce results for you. When you are only having thoughts for the same goal or purpose your inner knowing very clearly knows what to act on and in what direction. This is why when you work at it, train your mind, focus and be conscious you start producing results. Your inner knowing after hours and days of getting told the same thing, with other stuff mixed in, finally gets it. Your inner knowing goes, oh, I guess this is what you really want. Then it begins harnesing the powers of the universe to help you fulfill that request. Now I am about to share with you an amazing tip that will exponentially speed up the results of everything I have shared with you in the previous lessons. You ready? You can tell your inner knowing what to listen to and what not to listen to. For example: I told my inner knowing that when ever I pause and say “I AM” or “Inner Knowing” whatever is immediately followed by those words are what I want you to pay attention to. All my other thoughts, ideas, pictures, words, etc you can ignore. In this way I do not have to spend months and years training my thoughts to only be solely focused on what I want before I start seeing results. Action Step: Create your signal to Your Inner knowing (which can be the same as mine) and tell your inner knowing you only want that which immediately follows that signal to be acted upon. Then use this signal to let your inner knowing know what you want help with. When You do this, you will skyrocket your results in any area of your life you ask your inner knowing for help with. Well there is one catch with that. You inner knowing processes your requests through the “filter” of your purpose. Whatever you and your inner knowing have created your life purpose to be (irregardless of whether you did it consciously or not). If your requests are inline with fulfilling your life purpose, you are golden and will achieve results with minimal effort. If your requests are not inline with your life purpose, all the struggle, effort and work you can imagine will not produce lasting results. You and your inner knowing create your purpose. And for most people, they did it unconsciously. Which means that if you want something different, you can now create a new purpose consciously. Your inner knowing has absolute “Veto” power over your new purpose. Which means if you create one your inner knowing doesn’t like, it won’t accept it. Communication with your Inner knowing is a two way street. When you put in a request for a new purpose, if you pay attention you will get a signal, sign, awareness or some form of knowing if the new purpose was approved or not. You can even ask for a sign so big, you will know beyond any shadow of a doubt if the new purpose was granted approval. If not, you can ask if the idea needs to be changed, parts of it need to be changed, if there is something you need to learn or know for it to be accepted, if it is a conditional acceptance or if you have to scrap the purpose all together and go in a completely different direction. Little hint, making money will almost never be part of your purpose. But guess what, if you are making money in a way that is fulfilling on your purpose, you can make as much of it as you want. Often when someone’s purpose is getting in the way of being thin and healthy, it is only because there is something to learn or be aware of and your inner knowing is using your extra weight as a way to make sure you get what it is trying to tell you. The signals I talked about with letting your inner knowing be aware of when you want it to listen can be seen in another light as well. For some this is the same thing as praying to God. If you do it in a ’structured way’ it is creating a signal to your inner knowing (holy spirit) unleashing the unlimited powers of God (the universe) to help give you exactly that. What foods are going to have the biggest positive impact in helping you be thin, slim, toned and healthy for life. How To Give A Funny Wedding Speech

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

By Mark Pommett Public speaking isnt easy for a lot of people. Public speaking at your own wedding? That is, for a number of people, the absolute worst experience possible. You have to stand up and make statements that people will remember in association with this most important occasion in your life, without giving undue offense to anyone. First and foremost, remember the cardinal rules of public speaking: Tell the audience what youre going to go over, go over it, and tell them what you just went over. In particular, keep the tone light, and keep an air of levity in your presentation. Make them laugh. Make them grin. Make them smile. First of all, if youre the groom, thank everyone who helped you with the wedding. Sometimes, being the groom at a wedding is sort of like being the prize steer at a stock show. The wedding planner coordinates everything, your bride-to-be is stressing out over all the details, and all you have to do is wear a tuxedo, hand her the ring and not screw up. So, by all means, praise your bride. Praise the bridesmaids. Praise your brides family, and thank them for raising the wonderful woman youre spending the rest of your life with. Then, praise the friends in the wedding party, who all tried to talk you out of this, and then wouldnt let you back out at the last minute. Praise your best man, and explain that the original duties of the best man were to fight off the brides brothers and cousins while the groom had time to escape with her through a window for a massive elopement. Do take the time to point out your single friends in the audience. Theyll appreciate it later, when they get singled out by the members of the wedding party trying to set them up. Do take the time to thank your parents for helping finance the ceremony. And then, you need to propose a toast. Now, youve proposed a toast to your wife, your future in-laws, and your parents, so the bounds of duty have been met. The final closing toast is traditionally meant to be funny, but be aware of the tastes of the wedding party. Something thats funny to a person in their 20s may be downright offensive to their grandparents, and you dont want to go down as being the man who offended everyone. Here are some classics: Heres to our wives and our loves. May they never meet. Ive put this date in my calendar. The best way to remember a wedding anniversary is to forget it once. Marriage is the union where man and woman become one. The trouble comes in when they try to decide which one. If youre the best man, you have the best gig at the wedding. You get to tell stories about Remember when and embarrass the groom. Be sure to bring up anecdotes about knowing them from high school, or knowing them from junior high school. In particular, praise the bride-to-be to the high heavens, then ask her if shes taken leave of her senses for marrying your friend. Shell laugh, everyone else will laugh, and the party can begin. Advice On How To Pick Yourself Up When You Feel Down And Depressed

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By Steve Hill Most people in the world often feel down and depressed, they find that things are getting on top of them and they find it hard to continue living their lives. In this article I give advice on how to get out of this rut and how we can reduce this depression. I have had many periods in my own life when I have been downright miserable and unhappy. The stress of everyday life has taken its toll and I have struggled to see any light at the end of the tunnel. I have now worked and studied hard to learn ways in which to combat this depression and stress. I am now much more able to cope with these type of situations. I still do find myself becoming down but now have various techniques and methods to help me to quickly return to happiness. The first thing I do when I start to feel a bit down or unhappy is to write a list of all the things that are making me feel this way. Instead of doing what I used to do, which was to stress so much about each of them, which only makes each problem even bigger, I now look at each item on the list and try to find a solution. This is not that easy to do but is essential in combatting the demons in my mind which are trying to make me think in a negative way. Some of the items on the list are hard to find solutions for. I then try to tell myself that worrying is not the answer and that all I can do is to give it my best shot to improve the situation. At the end of the day what is the worst thing that can happen? I have realised that I seem to get down and depressed when I am over tired. Now when I feel over-tired, I ensure that I go to bed a lot earlier than normal over the next few days and try to avoid drinks like coffee, late at night, which can keep me awake. To help me to sleep I always read a book which not only tires my eyes but also helps to take my mind off the things that I am worried about. I have also been known to have a small snooze in the afternoons to help me to catch up on any lost sleep. I feel fortunate to have two young children. They seem to be full of life and do not seem to have a care in the world. Both children have totally changed my life in a positive way and are a bundle of fun and joy. When starting to feel a bit down and depressed, I spend as much time as I can with my children as they are what makes me happy and smile. I can soon forget my troubles and it also makes me appreciate what I have in life. As well as writing a list of what is making me sad and worried, I also write a list of what I am happy with. As in the above example the children would be on this list as would many other aspects of my life. By concentrating on this list, I soon see that my life is not so bad after all. It is very easy for a person like myself to over focus on my fears and phobias and to lose sight of the things that are positive in my life. We all have things that we worry about, it is the people who learn how to handle these issues who end up being the most happiest and successful. We need to start seeing these worries as challenges instead of problems. I hope the advice in this article helps you as much as it has helped me.
